Robert Burns (25th Jan 1759 – 21st July 1796) - also known as Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, Ploughman Poet and various other names and epithets, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. Here in Estonia various whisky clubs have celebrated Burns even  longer but Scottish Culture Society of Estonia started with Burns Suppers in Estonian language in 2011. We feel especially glad and privileged as we have witnessed that Burns Suppers tradition (rituals) that we started here in Estonian has given rise to various local themed Suppers, which have been dedicated to Bread, Sea, Writers of the Sea. All carried in the same humanity and friendship that were so important to Burns himself. This way we can say that Burns has already influenced Estonian culture by bringing us together appreciating good poetry, humanity, food and laugh. The Scottish Culture Society of Estonia set out in 2016 to launch a CD of Burns songs in Estonian in 2017.

Scottish Culture Society of Estonia was founded in 2009 and among other commitments we have organized Burns Suppers for 6 years now (full ceremony and speeches all in Estonian language). As an example - here is a link to our Burns Supper two years ago:
